This song is a mystery to me. Hmmmm… even though I wrote it? YES, Ok, not such a great way to start, but a transparent one. Apparently the saxophone player who was brought in by the producer Jon Bellini asked him, ”What is this song even about”? I do have an answer to the mystery…
The starter answer is that I wanted to try and write a tune that had other character voices built into it, as in a stage production, a pop/rock musical like Glee, if you will. So Debye Delorean isn’t the actor/character, but just the writer/demo singer. Secondly, I wanted the opportunity to work with a new-to-me musician/producer in Boston. The year was 2012 and the Anybody Everybody idea was planted deeply in my songwriting psyche at the moment. I have always loved little nods to favorite singers and songs in my tunes and this one is chocked full. See if you catch the Donna Summer, Billy Idol and Heart nods.
